Breed characteristics:
The Cornish Rex is a long-legged cat with a slender,
compact and muscular body. The legs are slim and straight
with small, oval paws. The tail is long and fine.
The head is wedge-shaped, of medium length, with taut
and straight lines. The profile should be even from
the forehead down to the tip of the nose. The chin
should be strong and marked. The eyes are almond-shaped
and large, and the taut lines and alert look give
the Cornish Rex an aristocratic appearance. The ears
are large, broad at the base, and high-set. It is
the large ears, in particular, that give the Cornish
Rex its individual look. The whiskers should have
a good length and be curly/frizzy.
The coat, which is the breed’s most important
identifier, should be wavy or curly. It is, furthermore,
silky-soft and very short. All colours are possible,
with or without white, and masked and aguti-pattern.
A Cornish Rex is a lively, intelligent and incredibly
curious cat that likes to take part in the day-to-day
activities. It shows a high degree of affection and
loyalty towards its owners.
The Cornish Rex moults little and can therefore,
in some instances, be tolerated by people with allergies.
